This posting will be used to fill a full-time position in the Engineering Division, Department of Public Works at the Engineer I, II or III level depending on the credentials and level of experience of the successful candidate.
The Engineer I, II and III classes include the Entry (I), Intermediate (II), and full performance level (III) of professional engineering work. The Engineer I class is the entry level where employees receive close supervision in performing engineer tasks; at the Engineer II level there is more independence and less supervision; and at the Engineer III level the employee is expected to perform a variety of engineering tasks independently and with minimal supervision.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
This position will perform basis engineering duties in the planning, design and construction of water/wastewater facilities, collection system and distribution systems.
Work is performed within established policies and professional standards and is reviewed through conferences and reports for adherence to schedules and standards applicable to the assignment by a higher level engineer or manage official.
Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. Assists in the management of the design of assigned capital projects to assure a quality product on schedule and within budget. Provides recommendations for timely procurement of required Architectural Engineering (A/E) services. Develops schedules in keeping with established priorities. Routinely monitors A/E schedule maintenance and quality of product. Maintains effective communications with the project team. Monitors the design progress to ensure maintenance of established budget. Reviews and provides critique of A/E self evaluations.
Assists in the management of the construction of assigned capital projects to assure a quality product on schedule and within budget. Ensures that construction documents are complete and in required detail to provide desired finished product. Provides recommendations for timely procurement of Construction Maintenance (C/M) services and establishes appropriate expectations for performance to ensure appropriate quality, cost and schedule controls. Provides significant field presence to ensure that established expectations are met. Reviews and provides critique of A/E self evaluations.
Prepares capital budget estimates4es for assigned projects in accordance with established schedules and guidelines. Assists in providing accurate construction cost estimates for new project requests and at established milestones. Determines estimates of total project cost and probable funding resources. Assists in providing back-up materials to fully support requests.
Provides thorough and timely information through established reporting procedures and as required to clearly convey project status, schedule, problems and action plan.
Provide technical engineering assistance as required within the area of assignment to supervisors, other project managers and other County agencies.
Assists in maintaining effective development of and revision to working administrative and technical documents and to new product evaluation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of principles, materials, methods, and practices of engineering emphasized by the are of engineering assignment.
Knowledge of the application and use of the computer technology to related engineering analysis.
Ability to plan and conduct engineering research, field studies, plan evaluations, and laboratory appraisals.
Ability to provide technical guidance to less experienced professional engineers and technical support staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relations with colleagues, developers, engineers, architects, contractors, inspectors and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications:Engineer I - Salary: $51,195- $86,270
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in engineering or a related field; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license..
Engineer II - Salary: $55,130- $92,901
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in engineering or a related field; two (2) or more years experience in professional engineering work; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
Engineer III - Salary: $59,374- $100,046
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in engineering or a related field; four (4) or more years experience in professional engineering work; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTE: Engineer III is the full performance proficiency level class in the Engineer series. An employee has the opportunity to advance through the series based upon experience and satisfactory work performance. Proficiency level advancements can be made when work assignments increase in variety and complexity; less supervision and review of the employee in completing work assignments; and the employee meets the minimum qualifications for the higher-level class. Advancement to a higher-level class in the series is at the discretion of the appointing authority.
Supplemental Qualifications:NOTE: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in project management, water & sewer utilities design & construction to include force mains, water mains, pumping stations and treatment plants.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
