Join the Fort Meade Child, Youth and School Services (CYSS) family as a child/youth instructor. We are looking for a qualified and caring Guitar Instructors. These positions are located at the Schools of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration, and Skills (SKIESUnlimited). SKIES instructors provide individual/group instructional programming for children and youth in a variety of areas encouraging them to expand their knowledge and acquire new skills. The program provides access to opportunities that expand the participant's knowledge, inspire them, and encourages them to explore, and acquire new skills.

### Duties
Serves as an Instructor in the CYS Instructional Program. Provides individual and/or group lessons to participants. Offers less structured activities for parents/children. Coordinates work schedules with Instructional Program Specialist. Develops individual and group lesson plans. Tracks participant's accomplishments, long and short term goals, effort, and evaluations as appropriate for age and type of instruction. Implements changes and adjustments to instructional program and plans to meet unusual situations associated with the needs of individual children and youth. Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children/youth. Acts to stimulate and encourage participant interest and to establish an environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of program participants. Observes and evaluates participants developmental level and records progress. Continually reviews instructional sessions and plans for appropriateness. Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Notifies supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Participates in conferences with parents, program staff, and school representatives. Plans and conducts special events for parents designed to promote the instructional program while encouraging parents to become involved. Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with standards and procedures as outlined in applicable regulations and program management guides. Provides care, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards. Completes designated training requirements and records completed training on own Individual Development Plan (IDP).

### Qualifications
1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
2. Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
3. Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
4. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
5. Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.
6. Demonstrated skill/evidence of competence in instructional area.
Highly Preferred are those candidates who possess a Professional Certificate/Credential as a Guitar Instructor; or Associates Degree or higher with 15 semester hours of college credit in the area of instruction (Guitar) AND previous work experience working with children and/or youth. Applicants that meet the highly preferred criteria will be referred to the selecting official first. All other applicants will be referred as needed and requested by the selecting official.
Conditions of Employment:
1. Meet all qualification/eligibility requirements.
2. A completed and signed copy DA Form 3433 is required prior to entrance on duty.
3. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-VERIFY) check.
4. Appointment is subject to completion of a favorable background checks/investigation to determine suitability for this position.
5. A health assessment is required.
6. Successfully complete all required background checks to include a Child and Youth National Agency Check with Inquiries.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
