Smartlink is looking to hire a Staff Accountant in Annapolis, MD.

The Staff Accountant utilizes hands-on accounting experience and in-depth understanding of accounting principles to perform complex accounting activities and financial analyses including ownership of reporting costs, productivity, and margins and expenditures. The Staff Accountant prepares journal entries, reconciles the general ledger close, and assists in the preparation and distribution of financial statements. This function ensures that all deliverables comply with regulatory guidance and professional standards.

Primary
Responsibilities:
Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports.
Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule.
Prepare journal entries and review accounting classification, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures.
Analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately.
Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budgeting process.
Develop financial models to assist in the analysis of the operating plan.
Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.
Assist with financial and tax audits, as necessary.
Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
Lead members of the accounting team.
Other projects as assigned.
Maintain professional, ethical, and company standards at all times.
Job Requirements:
Knowledge of accounting practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Strong demonstrated ability to prioritize, a commitment to tight deadlines, and problem resolution skills.
Experience with SAP Business One is a plus.
Demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping.
Proficient at MS Office, especially Excel.
Problem solving ability, analytical and numeracy skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Education and
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have one year of progressively responsible accounting experience.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
CPA Certification is an added advantage, but not required.
Travel Requirements:
No travel (0%) is expected in association with performing this position. Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
