This position is located in the Hull Division, Small Craft Repair/Waterfront Readiness, Annapolis, MD. The incumbent performs overhaul, maintenance, repair, and original work on sail and/or watercraft. The incumbent assists with the performance of lifting various sail or power craft in or out of the water with a 60 or 250 ton travel lift or mobile crane. He/she assists with boat movement around the yard and in and out of buildings and loading or unloading boats on trailers. The incumbent also assists Riggers with lift operations as required.
You must be a US Citizen. Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance. Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation. Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. You must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Repair and caulk wooden decks, does hull planking and install beading on wooden boats such as yawls, sloops, knockabouts, motor launches, special boats, etc.
Assemble standard joints by gluing, doweling, and by using standard and special metal fasteners
Install insulating material such as cork or fiberglass.
Read and understand blueprints and sketch drawings to lay out and set up job.
Use brushes, rollers, and spray guns to apply coating materials.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Boatbuilder without more than normal supervision such as:fabricating and assembling wood deck houses, bulkheads, doors, sash, and paneling for wooden boats; fabricating and assembling various types of plastics to fiberglass boats; fabricating and assembling parts and performing repairs on aluminum boats; using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines, and techniques; setting up and operating woodworking machinery such as band saws, jigsaws, planers, joiners, molders, and sanders on specially selected woods such as oak, mahogany, ash, teak, etc.

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.

Physical Effort: The employee is required to regularly stoop, stretch, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee handles and carries tools, equipment, and testing devices. Carries items weighing over 45 pounds. May lift heavier items with assistance.
Working Conditions: Works indoors, outdoors, and aboard sailboats and other watercraft under conditions involving dust, vibration, loud noise, and unpleasant odors. Exposed to eye, skin, lung, and noise irritations from fiberglass, sawdust, vapors and bonding chemicals. Exposed to high and low temperatures, poor ventilation, and poor illumination in the course of a working day.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
