CITIZENSDuties You will advise on corrective action plans and processes related to the Radiation Safety Program.
You will monitor and evaluate safety practices, equipment, and operational procedures from a radiation safety perspective.
You will prepare operating and emergency procedures for the use of radioactive material, devices containing radioactive material, and machine sources of ionizing radiation to ensure compliance with pertinent Naval Radioactive Material Permits.
You will provide technical and program support for Nuclear and Radiation Safety classes, programs, and student projects at the Naval Academy.
You will assist the Radiation Safety Officer with the planning and managing daily operations of USNA radiological processes, ensuring compliance with all pertinent regulations.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Must be able to respond within normal commuting time, less than 2 hours if offsite, when Radiological Affairs Support Program (RSP) operations are being performed or when acting for the RSO.
Must maintain assistant Radiation Safety Officer Certification and all other mandatory certifications required by RAD 10 guidelines.
The RAD-010 document requires the ARSO to successfully complete the S-41-0016 Radiation Safety Officer Training Course and the S-553-1111 Transportation of RAM course or its equivalent from NAVSEADET- RASO.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card to make official government purchases for goods and services.
QualificationsIn addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Implementing radiation safety program activities in accordance with organization mission and objectives; 2) Coordinating with personnel on the administration of the radiation safety program; 3) Evaluating radiation safety operations to ensure compliance with directives and regulations; and 4) Monitoring radiological health programs to ensure compliance with radiation safety requirements, procedures, or policies.

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree or higher in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus OR have a combination of education and experience with courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above.
