Reading & Integrated Literacy SecondaryJOB SUMMARYServes as a member of a resource teacher team under the direction of the Coordinator of Secondary Reading, English, and Integrated Literacy.
Assists school staffs with the implementation of curriculum and programs for reading/language arts and literacy across disciplines.
Assists in providing teacher staff development both in county-wide and individual school venues.
Travels to and between schools.
Additional days of duty may be requested during the summer.

Summer hoursESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Supports middle school administrators in building their capacity for reading and integrated literacy instruction.
Assists teachers and administrators in implementing a balanced approach to reading and literacy by modeling collaborative and instructional planning, establishing quality learning environment, instructional delivery with pre-and post- discussion/analysis, assessment development, protocols, effective grading practices, analysis of student work and student performance data.
Guides Department Chairpersons, team leaders, and literacy coaches to improve their capacity to improve reading and literacy effectiveness across the middle school curriculum for all student groups.
Designs and writes curriculum and e-curriculum materials and assessments designed for middle school grade levels; serves on committees to review, modify, develop and/or evaluate reading/language arts/integrated literacy materials.
Creates district-wide summative and formative assessments for middle school.
Prepares and manages e-curriculum resources in reading/language arts/literacy for middle school teachers through an online curriculum management delivery system.
Works with multiple core curriculum offices including Differentiated Advanced Learning Initiatives (DALI), Arts integration, AVID, and STEM strategies across the curricula.
Visits schools to provide feedback on teaching methods; assists with curricular related issues, program planning and implementation, evaluates programs and develops modifications to improve effectiveness.
Collaborates with the coordinator to analyze state and district testing program data, review results, and prepare professional learning sessions to address the needs indicated.
Facilitates professional development for middle school language arts teachers to improve their capacity for reading and literacy instruction; supports teachers with the Common Core State Standards.
Provides training to the literacy coaches in reading/language arts/literacy to support their ability to build teacher capacity.
Collaborates with multiple central office services to design integrated strategies to target individual school needs.
Supports the coordinator with assisting schools with the articulation process between grade levels and providing extended day and year reading and literacy programs to maintain and accelerate literacy skills.
Collaborates with Reading/Literacy Resource Teacher Team in pursuance of duties.
Collaborates with administrators, teachers, and community to create a culture of literacy in the school.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

EducationBachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
ExperienceFive (5) years successful classroom teaching experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Knowledge of current trends and research in eliminating the achievement gap, curriculum, reading instruction, integrated literacy, Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards, school innovation and school improvement.
Extensive knowledge of strategies, techniques, and processes involved in strategic reading and writing instruction and literacy that can be applied across curriculum areas.
Demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of a school staff.
Demonstrated ability in data analysis, curriculum, instruction, assessment, building teacher capacity, and professional development delivery methods for adult audiences.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of adult learning techniques.
Ability to meaningfully infuse technology into instruction and professional development such as document cameras, presenters, Smartboards, etc.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations (students, parents, school system staff and the community).
Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.
g.
Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and CertificationsEmployee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification:
Standard Professional Certificate I (SPC I) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification:
Standard Professional Certificate II (SPC II) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and Daily access to reliable transportation.
Driving Requirements Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
